Introduction: About me

September 2022

Personal

Who am I ?

First of all welcome, this is the very first blog I'm putting out to the world and I'm very excited for the many that lie ahead.

So a little about me... I've been a developer for over 4 years now and started my career when I joined Carbon Six Digital in 2018 on their Degree Apprenticeship programme, shortly after finishing college.

Throughout my time at Carbon Six, I've been working predominantly on Umbraco Back-end development on a range of projects of varying complexities, and have also worked on HubSpot CMS projectS. Other aspects of my role include Hosting & Infrastructure setup, Front-end development, Solution design and being the acting support agent when assigned.

I am not a robot...

Aside from work, I regularly try to disconnect from the busy tech focused world we live in through hobbies of Rugby and Carp Fishing.

I've played Rugby on and off for the last 7 years, and joined back to Aldershot & Fleet Rugby Club in 2021, after Covid. I play mostly as a Second Row / Lock and was awarded Player of the Year last season. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to get away from the desk and let off some steam especially after being stuck inside for so long during the pandemic.

Carp Fishing is another disconnect for me to surround myself in nature, away from the hustle and bustle and to chill out. I'm a Bait Consultant for a Bait (fish food) company called Karper Ltd, and I regularly go fishing at home in the UK, as well as trying to go to Europe (normally Italy or France) twice a year.

Disclaimer: No fish were hurt when taking these photos, the fishing I do is catch and release so all fish go back safely.

What does the future hold ?

I have just finished studying towards a BSC (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions. As you can imagine, I've had very little spare time during the degree due to completing this alongside work. Now I've completed this and have much more spare time, I'm now focusing on even more learning, expanding and sharing my knowledge and most importantly increasing my involvement in open-source projects.

The Umbraco community has been a massive help throughout my career so far, without the resources available online I definitely wouldn't be where I am today. I've always wanted to give back to the community as much as I can, especially as everyone is so friendly too !

I'm currently looking for areas where I can help out in the open-source community, so if you have any open source projects you're currently working on or know of any, which need contributions on please contact me on my socials below and I'll be happy to help.
